I.Preamble

Established in 2000, Sri Kaliswari College achieved autonomous status in 2012. Upon gaining autonomy, the college instituted several statutory bodies, including the Governing Body, Academic Council, Boards of Studies, and Finance Committee. These bodies were established to articulate a comprehensive statement of purpose and functions, which the individual departments would adopt to ensure effective governance.

II.The Role of the Academic Council

The Academic Council holds the exclusive responsibility for all academic matters. This includes the formulation of academic policy, approval of courses, regulations, syllabi, and more. The Council actively involves faculty members at all levels, as well as external experts, including representatives from the university and the government. Decisions made by the Academic Council are final and will not require further ratification by the Academic Council or any other statutory bodies of the university, in accordance with UG Regulations.

III. Composition of the Academic Council

The Academic Council convenes as necessary, but at least twice a year in accordance with UGC norms. The composition of the Academic Council is as follows:

  1. The Principal (Chairman): The Principal of the college serves as the Chairman of the Academic Council.
  2. Deans and Department Heads: All Deans and Heads of Departments within the college are members of the Academic Council.
  3. Teaching Staff Representatives: Four teachers from the college, representing different categories of teaching staff, are included in the Council. These representatives are selected on a rotational basis, based on their seniority of service in the college.
  4. External Experts/Academicians: The Council includes no less than four experts or academicians from outside the college. These individuals, representing fields such as Industry, Commerce, Law, Education, Medicine, Engineering, Sciences, etc., are nominated by the Governing Body.
  5. University Nominees: Three nominees from the university, holding at least the rank of Professor, are members of the Academic Council.
  6. Member Secretary: A Member Secretary, nominated by the Principal, is also part of the Academic Council.

The term of the members of the Academic Council is two years.

IV. Functions and Duties of the Academic Council

The Academic Council advises the Governing Board on all academic matters.

The Academic Council is responsible for maintaining the standards of teaching and examinations within the campus.

Without prejudice to the generality of the above provisions, the Academic Council exercises the following powers and performs the following duties:

  1. The Council takes action on academic matters initiated by itself, the Governing Board, or proposed by departments/faculties.
  2. The Council approves the curriculum, syllabi, examination scheme, and reforms for each program.
  3. The Council formulates regulations in consultation with the concerned Boards of Studies, laying down courses of study.
  4. The Council sets rules for Sri Kaliswari College’s academic operations, including admissions, examinations, attendance, and discipline.
  5. The Council supervises Sri Kaliswari College’s academic work and guides teaching methods, evaluation, and academic improvements.
