Over the last decade, there has been renewed interest in the field of botany, both in academic circles and in fields such as ecology, plant biochemistry, farming consultancy, nursery/greenhouse management, and more.

With these trends in clear focus, the department of  Botany at SKC has tailor-made its programme to impart knowledge and skills in research and analysis, as well as to hone practical application among students. The laboratories are high-end, state of the art, and spacious, allowing each student to practice and experiment individually, and help students to understand plant physiology, plant anatomy, and to conduct ancillary

  • To carry out innovative research, teaching and outreach programmes on the patterns and process of life science with focus on plants, microbes  and their environment.

  • To make a student centered and professions – oriented higher education that bestows academic environment to demonstrate and promote creative, intellectual inquiry with positive relationship between students and faculty that enhances the learning experience of every one and help the modern trends in the soceity.

Sri Kaliswari College Green House is located nearby Boy’s Canteen and it was established in the year2016. The Green House collection is comprised of approximately 150 plants representing 50 plants are highly medicinal valuable plants, 25 are ornamental plants and 75 plants collectively covered in rare, endangered and threatened plant list. The Green House is used as teaching and research facility for the Botany students. Students are actively engaged in all aspects of organic production from planning and to production. Our aim is to create more green house with rare and medicinal plants within the campus.

Our College Botany lab is well equipped for undergraduate and postgraduate students to perform various botany practicals which are necessary for the study of the structure, properties, and biochemical processes of all forms of plant life, as well as plant classification, plant diseases, and the interactions of plants with their physical environment. The laboratory is spacious, well ventilated and are equipped with the necessary instruments such as Dissecting microscopes, compound microscopes, spectrophotometer, colorimeter, centrifuge machine, heating mantle, air sampler, hygrometer, camera Lucida, soxhlet apparatus, autoclave, microtome, respirometer, botanical charts and specimens.

Our Botany Laboratory has 55 preserved plant specimens for studying botanical names and identifying the particular plant in the field. Along with 40 Fishes and Animals preserved specimens are kept for using Zoological studying purpose.

Botany laboratory contains 10 experimental instruments to study the sectioning of Plants, centrifugal process and some physiological experiments like transpiration, Oxygen evolution, seed germination. The exclusive experiments are carried out by using equipments like Auxanometer, Ganong’s Photometer, Kuhnes fermentation apparatus, clinical and ultra centrifuges, Shakers, Wiltman’s light screen apparatus etc.

Our Laboratory also possesses 50 types of economically important Medicinal Plant products. For the preparation and storage of Herbarium of common and RET plants, a separate place is maintained. There is a Botanical Garden and a Star Garden (Nakshatra Vanam) as additional assets to Botany Department.
