SKC’s chemistry department produces graduates who demonstrate a broad knowledge in fundamental principles and concepts of organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. For those who wish to move on to professions and jobs on the basis of this knowledge, the faculty trains them to develop critical understanding of the established theories, principles and concepts in the field of chemistry for the development and management of industry, manufacturing of fine chemicals, etc.

To this end, the department also provides training in communication skills specifically suited to professions in chemical, petrochemical and allied industries.

The department houses two separate laboratories that enable students to conduct a wide range of experiments across every field of Chemistry, from separating micro particles by size, to conducting organic reactions under various conditions, to deionization and centrifugation.

As a pure science field, a future in academics is very much on the cards. To this end, the faculty enable the students to be cognitive of the ethics, morals and modalities of research, including fair benefit sharing, plagiarism, scientific misconduct, and so on.

  • To produce quality chemistry professional with technical skill and applied knowledge to pursue higher education and research and to fulfill the jobs/employment opportunities in industries, scientific projects and allied sectors at regional and national levels.

  • To provide an academically sound environment that ensures understanding of key chemical concepts, principles and theories and cognitive development of students in a holistic manner.

  • To provide knowledge and skills to the students thus enabling them to undertake further studies in chemistry related areas or multidisciplinary areas that can be helpful for self-employment/entrepreneurship.

  • To mould a responsible citizen who is aware of most basic domain-independent knowledge, including critical thinking and communication.

Chemistry learning becomes more interesting when students are able to understand the subject well and to apply the acquired knowledge practically. Our College has TWO well equipped and ventilated chemistry laboratories with all essential facilities. Weekly lab classes are conducted as per batch. Students are trained for the practical. Each lab has a lab assistant and a helper for the maintenance and smooth functioning of the laboratory.

ORGANIC AND INORGANIC LABORATORY

The Organic and Inorganic Laboratories have been provided with sufficient number of burners with gas supply and working tables with sink.

PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY AND PROJECT LABORATORY

Physical chemistry and Project Laboratory have sufficient number of instruments for UG, PG students and Part time Research for faculty members. This Laboratory has been partitioned into separate balance room, Laminar air flow Chamber and Store room.

For Safety purpose, both the Laboratories have entrance and outlet; and are provided with fire extinguisher, exhaust fan, fuming cupboard and first aid box.The details of instruments kept for analysis are given below.
