SKC SPECIAL: Boosting Up Academic Proficiency with Skills Development and Ethics Incorporation

  SKC SPECIAL:

  Sri Kaliswari College is situated in rural area. Students primarily hail from socially disadvantaged backgrounds seeking dignified survival through Higher Education and Employment. Recognizing the evolving demands of Employment sectors, Institution has integrated diverse programmes to enhance Students' knowledge, Skills and Values, transforming them from mere degree holders to competent Workforce.

  To enhance Students' academic prowess and foster their holistic development, Institution offers them opportunities to hone their Cognitive Skills, Technical and Soft Skills, Employability and Entrepreneurial Skills with Ethics incorporation.

 Skills Development

I. COGNITIVE SKILLS

Institution, beyond its curriculum, offers engaging programmes to boost Students’ Cognitive Skills.
  • 1. Institution has organized around 61 programmes for Capacity Building and Skill Development, equipping Students with specialized knowledge and practical Skills.
  • 2. Encouraging enrollment in SWAYAM/NPTEL courses has resulted in 1,492 Students’ participation over last five years. Notably, M. Janaki Raman(BCA) achieved highest score(75%) in Soft Skill Development, securing Virtual Internship at IIT, Kharagpur.
  • 3. During lockdown, Students were encouraged to join "New India Learnathon 2020 Challenge," and obtained 990 certificates for enhanced Employability Skills.
  • 4. Participating and Presenting research papers in Conferences enhance Students' Critical thinking and Problem-solving Skills.
  • 5. Participating in IPR competitions like EUREKA-2022 inspires Students to generate novel ideas. Short Film contests foster Creative thinking and Analytical Skills
  • II.TECHNICAL SKILLS & SOFT SKILLS

    a.Technical Skills
  • 1.Through Institution’s Collaboration with DELL EMC, 100 CS/IT/BCA Students received International Certification in Data Science & Big Data Analytics. Collaboration with Spoken Tutorial Course, IIT Bombay benefitted 389 Students from various disciplines.
  • 2.Institution's ICTACT membership facilitated 60 Alumni to participate in 25-day TNSDC-sponsored "Retail Sales and Marketing" training in 2018, with a stipend of Rs2500. In 2020, 45 IT, BCA and CS Students received free Training on "Cloud Infrastructure and Service" boosting their Technical Skills.
  • 3.Under CSR Corp R initiative, Honeywell sponsored Training programmes and Awareness programmes for 114 economically disadvantaged Advanced learners.
  • 4.Cisco provided free Python Programming Training to 400 Students from BSc CS, IT, BCA, and B. Com (CA).
  • 5. 321 Students from CS, IT, BCA, English and Mathematics enrolled in ICT Academy Skill Edge course, acquiring latest Technical Skills.

  • b.Soft Skills
  • 1. As part of CSR initiative by CSS Corp, covering both Technology and Soft Skills, Employability Skill Training was conducted for 50 Students in 2019. It extended to another 50 Students in 2020. In 2023, Atos Syntals Prayas Foundation in collaboration with ICT Academy offered training for another 50 students.
  • 2. In 2022-2023, 312 UG/PG Outgoing Students received one-year Soft Skill Training from qualified Language Trainers.
  • 3. National E-Workshop on “Interview Skills” was conducted for 977 Students by Dr. T. Ravichandran, IIT Kanpur  honing their Interview Skills.

  • c.Communication Skills
  • 1. Language Lab, equipped with Orell Digital Software and Speaker sets with Headphones, enhance Students’ Communication Skills in English
  • 2. Communication Enrichment Clubs focussing on Current Events, Book Reading, Book Reviews, Vocabulary Enrichment, and Paper Presentation enhance Students’ English proficiency.
  • 3. PG English Students, guided by Professor of Practice, Mr.S.Annamalai, Former Deputy Editor "The Hindu," underwent Internships in collaboration with Inspire Career Development Centre, Pondicherry. It enhanced their Journalistic Writing Skills and they published Newsletter “Kaliswari Times”.
  • 4. Contributions to various Departmental journals - 'Honeycomb,' 'Agni Kunju,' 'Com-Horizon- showcase Students’ Creativity and Writing Skills.
  • 5. 79 Students’ enrollment in online course “The Hindu-STEP PLUS" facilitated their Speaking and Writing Skills.
  • These Communication Skills Training Programmes empowered Students in public speaking. G. Sakthikiruba secured fourth place in 'Youth Talk' Regional Finale .R.Esakyabishek won first place in Talkathon in Kerala. In District-level Elocution, G.Sakthikiruba received Rs 5000 cash prize and Rs 20,000 at State level. Credit to their oratorical skill, R.Dhanalakshmi was selected by Sivakasi Writers Club and V.Kartheeswari was selected by Junior Vikatan to anchor programmes.

    d.Life Skills
  • 1. At the request of Institution, cost-effective driving training arranged by Jaycees Club in collaboration with Madurai Driving School helped 401 students acquire Driving Skills.
  • 2.Training in Silambam Martial Art enhances Students’ life Skills, fostering discipline and self-confidence. K.Dhanalakshmi achieved the Oscar World record in Silambam.
  • 3. 19 programmes on Yoga and Meditation, Health and Hygiene, significantly improved Students’ Concentration Skills.
  •  III. EMPLOYABILITY AND ENTERPRENEURIAL SKILLS

  • 1. Institution, authorized as a Skill India Nodal Centre, organized 3-day workshops twice on Tally & GST, equipping 246 B.COM and BBA Students with Employability Skills.
  • 2. Entrepreneurship Development Club and Institution Innovation Cell jointly organized 35 programmes, shaping innovative Entrepreneurial Skills in Students.
  • 3.Every year Bio-tech Department  offers Hands-on training to Students in Mushroom Cultivation, Spawn Preparation, Vermicomposting, Ornamental Fish Culture, Horticulture, Beekeeping, and Spirulina Cultivation. It prepares Students for Entrepreneurship with practical proficiency skills.
  • 4.Certificate courses on Entrepreneurship Development and Motivational Talks by successful Entrepreneurs encourage Students towards successful Entrepreneurship.
  • 5.103 Industrial visits and Annual Educational tours equip Students with firsthand exposure to real-world Industrial Skills.
  • 6.Under Vocational Training Programme, 24 hostel Students acquired Tailoring Skills and 64 Students acquired Typewriting Skills.
  • Ethics Incorporation

      INCORPORATING SOCIAL, MORAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL ETHICS:

  • 1. NCC regularly organizes Training Camps to instill Constitutional values and patriotism among Students. Under EBSB M.Vijayasri(IIIBComCA) got selected and attended 10-Day EBSB training(06.11.2022-15.11.2022) at Jeppiar’s Institute of Technology, Kunnam.
  • 2. 74 Students completed self-learning Cyber Security course by ICT Academy and Cisco.
  • 3. Institution’s Internal Complaints Committee sensitized 1112 Students against Cyber Crime and instilled Cyber Ethics.
  • 4. Institution’s Lost and Found box exhibits Students’ moral ethics and honesty.
  • 5.Value Education and Gandhian certificate courses inculcate social ethics of Non-Violence.
  • 6. Annually conducted Parent-Teacher Meetings help them keep track of their Wards’ Social and Moral ethics.
  • 7. Environmental Studies and Extension activities enable Students imbibe Eco-Awareness.
  • 7.Human Rights Club, Citizen Consumer Awareness Club, and Legal Awareness Club organized 21 Awareness programmes sensitizing Students to Legal Ethics.
  • As a result of the above mentioned practices, Students have significantly developed Cognitive, Technical and Soft Skills, Entrepreneurial Skills and imbibed Ethics. This transformation is evident in their excellent placements in these five years: 1768 secured placements in both Public and Private sectors and 117 excelled in Standardized exams like JAM, CSEET,IELTS, NET,TANCET.
